How to add iptv to plex 2024

Plex is a popular media server software that allows you to organize and stream your personal media collection, as well as access online content from various sources. However, did you know that you can also watch IPTV on Plex? IPTV, or Internet Protocol Television, is a way of delivering television content over the internet, instead of using traditional cable or satellite signals. IPTV offers many advantages over conventional television, such as a wider range of channels and content, more flexibility and customization, and lower costs.

However, Plex does not have a native IPTV feature, and you cannot simply add an IPTV playlist to Plex as you would with other media files. Instead, you need to use a third-party plugin or software that can enable IPTV functionality on Plex. In this article, we will show you how to add IPTV to Plex using two methods: using the IPTV plugin for Plex, and using the xTeVe software.

Method 1: Using the IPTV Plugin for Plex

The IPTV plugin for Plex is a simple and easy way to add IPTV to Plex. The plugin allows you to stream IPTV channels and content from an M3U playlist, which is a text file that contains the links to the IPTV streams. The plugin also supports EPG (electronic program guide) and logos for the IPTV channels. However, the plugin may not work with some IPTV services or devices, and it may not support 4K resolution or high-definition audio. Here are the steps to use the IPTV plugin for Plex:

• Step 1: Download the IPTV plugin for Plex from here https://iptvrapid.com/rapidiptv/watch-iptv-on-plex/ and unzip the file. You should see a folder named “IPTV.bundle”.

• Step 2: Locate the Plex plugins folder on your computer. The location may vary depending on your operating system and Plex installation. For example, on Windows, the default location is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins. On Mac, the default location is ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins. On Linux, the default location is /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins.

• Step 3: Copy and paste the IPTV.bundle folder into the Plex plugins folder. You may need to restart Plex or refresh the plugins page to see the IPTV plugin in Plex.

• Step 4: Obtain an M3U playlist from your IPTV service provider. You may need to subscribe to an IPTV service or use a free IPTV service to get an M3U playlist. The M3U playlist should contain the links to the IPTV streams, as well as the names and logos of the IPTV channels. You can also edit the M3U playlist using a text editor or an online tool to customize the IPTV channels and content.

• Step 5: Open the IPTV plugin in Plex and click on the Settings icon. Enter the URL or the path of the M3U playlist in the Playlist URL field. You can also enter the URL or the path of the EPG file in the EPG URL field, if you have one. The EPG file is a text file that contains the schedule and information of the IPTV programs. You can also adjust other settings, such as the buffer size, the stream format, and the transcoding quality. Click on Save to apply the changes.

• Step 6: Go back to the IPTV plugin in Plex and click on the Channels section. You should see the list of IPTV channels and content from your M3U playlist. You can click on any channel or content to start streaming it on Plex.

Method 2: Using the xTeVe Software

xTeVe is a software that can act as a proxy between your IPTV service and your Plex server. xTeVe can stream IPTV channels and content from an M3U playlist, and make them appear as a DVR (digital video recorder) device in Plex. This way, you can use the Live TV & DVR feature in Plex to watch IPTV on Plex. xTeVe also supports EPG and logos for the IPTV channels, as well as filtering and mapping options to customize the IPTV channels and content. However, xTeVe may be more complex and technical to set up and use than the IPTV plugin for Plex. Here are the steps to use xTeVe to add IPTV to Plex:

• Step 1: Download the xTeVe software from here https://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/plex-iptv.html and unzip the file. You should see a file named “xteve” or “xteve.exe”.

• Step 2: Run the xTeVe file and open a web browser. Go to http://127.0.0.1:34400/web/ to access the xTeVe web interface. You may need to allow xTeVe to access your network and firewall settings.

• Step 3: Follow the xTeVe setup wizard to configure xTeVe. You will need to enter the URL or the path of the M3U playlist and the EPG file from your IPTV service provider. You can also adjust other settings, such as the buffer size, the stream format, and the transcoding quality. You can also use the filtering and mapping options to customize the IPTV channels and content. Click on Save to apply the changes.

• Step 4: Open Plex and go to Settings > Live TV & DVR. Click on Set Up Plex DVR and enter the network address of xTeVe, which is http://127.0.0.1:34400. Click on Connect and select xTeVe as the tuner device. Click on Continue and choose your country and the channel list. Click on Continue and scan the channels. Click on Continue and finish the setup.

• Step 5: Go back to Plex and go to Live TV & DVR. You should see the list of IPTV channels and content from your M3U playlist. You can click on any channel or content to start streaming it on Plex.
